What Is Preventive & Family Dentistry?
Preventive dentistry helps protect your teeth and gums by preventing dental problems before they develop. That means regular exams, professional cleanings, and catching problems early, like cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. Family dentistry brings all of that together for patients of every age, in one convenient location.
Preventive Dental Services We Offer in Missouri City, TX
We offer a full range of preventive services designed to keep your teeth and gums healthy year-round.
Comprehensive Dental Exams
Our dentists thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, bite, and jaw at every visit. We look for early signs of decay, gum disease, and structural concerns. Early detection leads to easier and less expensive treatment.
Professional Teeth Cleanings
Even the best brushing can’t reach every spot. Our hygienists clean away plaque and tartar buildup to lower your risk of decay and gum disease. We recommend cleanings every six months for most patients.
Digital Dental X-Rays
Digital X-rays show us what’s happening beneath the surface, between teeth, below the gumline, and inside the bone. They’re faster, sharper, and emit far less radiation than old-school film X-rays. We use them to catch what a visual exam alone would miss.
Fluoride Treatments
Enamel wears down over time, and fluoride helps slow that process. A quick application at your cleaning appointment strengthens your teeth against decay without any drilling or discomfort, just an extra layer of protection that most patients need.
Dental Sealants
The grooves in your back teeth are deeper than they look, and your toothbrush can’t always reach the bottom of them. Sealants fill those grooves with a thin protective coating that keeps bacteria and food out. Simple, painless, and especially worth it for children.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer screenings are performed as part of comprehensive preventive evaluations when clinically appropriate. Early detection significantly improves outcomes. The screening is quick and completely painless.
Family Dentistry for Every Age
Missouri City families need a dental practice that grows with them. We see patients from toddlers getting their first checkup to seniors managing their long-term dental health.
Children learn healthy habits early in a calm, encouraging environment. We make their visits fun and educational, so they leave without fear. Teens and young adults face unique challenges like wisdom teeth, sports injuries, and orthodontic needs. We keep an eye on all of it.
Adults benefit from routine preventive care that protects their smile for the long term. Seniors have special needs because their dental needs change with age. We offer personalized care plans to address problems like dry mouth, receding gums, and worn restorations.

How Prevention Saves You Money
Skipping your dental checkups rarely saves money; it usually costs more. A small cavity caught at a routine exam costs a fraction of what a root canal or crown costs later. Gum disease treated early requires far less intervention than advanced periodontal disease. Preventive care is the most cost-effective investment in your long-term dental health.
Why Missouri City Families Choose Dentist At Sienna
We built this practice around one idea: that every patient deserves a dental experience they actually look forward to. Our modern facility welcomes patients of all ages, from toddlers to seniors, under one roof.

Our team accepts most major insurance plans and offers flexible financing through Cherry (A patient financing service). We also offer transparent pricing with no surprise bills or hidden fees. Whether you’re booking a first checkup for your child or a cleaning for yourself, we make it simple.
Leading the practice are two dentists who bring very different backgrounds and one shared philosophy, putting patients first.
Dr. Navin A. Pathiyil, DMD, FICOI, DICOI, developed a passion for dentistry as far back as middle school. He studied Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. Dr. Pathiyil then earned his Doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh College of Dental Medicine.
He completed post-graduate training in Prosthodontics, focusing on full-arch reconstructions, surgical implant placement, and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Pathiyil brings a rare combination of clinical precision and artistic eye to every patient he treats.
Dr. Joy, DDS, has practiced in the Houston area for over 15 years. Originally from Kerala, India, he earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Arlington. He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at UT Health Science Center at Houston.
He has deep experience across a wide range of procedures, from routine fillings to complex implant cases. Dr. Joy listens carefully, moves at your pace, and makes sure you feel informed and confident before treatment begins.
Together, Dr. Pathiyil and Dr. Joy lead a team that treats every patient like a neighbor, because in Missouri City, most of them are.

Frequently Asked Questions
You’ve Got Questions. We’ve Got Straight Answers
We are committed to delivering the highest quality dental care and do so using advanced dental equipment.
How often should my family come in for checkups?
Most patients benefit from two visits per year. Some children may need to be seen more frequently based on their personal risk factors. We develop a schedule that works for your family.
When should my child have their first dental visit?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth erupting, whichever comes first. Starting early builds healthy habits and keeps us ahead of any developmental concerns.
What if my child is nervous about the dentist?
We know dental anxiety is real, especially for children. Our team moves at your child’s pace, uses friendly language, and makes every visit as comfortable as possible. Most nervous children leave excited to come back.
Do you accept dental insurance?
We accept most major dental insurance plans. Contact our office, and we will verify your benefits before your appointment so there are no surprises.
